Bandits have killed three personnel of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS) and abducted the younger brother of a state lawmaker in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Gatekeepers News reports that Yunusa Ibrahim, KADVS public relations officer, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ibrahim said the personnel were killed in the Zaria-Pambegua area while Sanusi, younger brother of Shehu Pambegua, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Kubau Constituency, was abducted from his residence.
According to him, the kidnapping occurred at about 10pm on Monday when suspected bandits arrived in a vehicle and invaded Sanusi’s residence.
Ibrahim identified the deceased personnel as Dallami Dantani, second-in-command of KADVS in Kubau LGA; Abdullahi Hamisu; and Zakariyya Musa.
He said the vigilantes were conducting routine security checks when they attempted to stop a red Volkswagen whose driver refused to comply.
The personnel subsequently pursued the vehicle in an official patrol van to establish the identities of its occupants and determine the purpose of their movement.
Ibrahim said Dantani was killed during the pursuit, while the assailants later turned back towards the KADVS office.
The attackers reportedly opened fire on the office, killing Hamisu and Musa before fleeing towards Zaria.
Ali Audu, Kaduna KADVS commander, described the deaths as a “painful loss” to the service and commiserated with the families of the deceased personnel.
Audu said surveillance had been intensified across Pambegua and neighbouring communities as security agencies continued efforts to rescue the abducted victim.
He assured residents that security personnel were working to track down the perpetrators and restore safety across the affected areas.
