Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its Special Passport Intervention Exercise in the United Kingdom to October 3, following a high turnout by Nigerians seeking passport services.
Gatekeepers News reports that the exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on September 19, is being held in London and Manchester. The extension was approved following the enrolment of 1,477 Nigerians within the first four days of the exercise.
The NIS said more than half of those enrolled had already had their passports produced and dispatched to their respective addresses.
According to the Service, the extension was approved under the directive of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to provide additional capacity and enable more eligible Nigerians to access the intervention exercise.
The NIS said the exercise had been progressing smoothly in London and Manchester despite challenges recorded on the opening day.
“In line with NIS commitment to an orderly and transparent process, eligible applicants are required to book appointments for the special intervention exercise via the website of the High Commission of Nigeria, United Kingdom,” the Service said.
Applicants are required to attend their appointments with a completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope.
The Service also reiterated that passport applications and payments under the exercise remain fully automated and cashless.
It said the applicable fees remain $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year booklet, adding that no additional charges are required to participate in the intervention exercise.
The NIS said further information on the extended dates, participating locations and appointment procedures would be communicated through its official channels and those of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.
