All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions in the Kogi State local government election held on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Nda-Eri, announced the results on Sunday, October 18, at the commission’s headquarters in Lokoja, the state capital, following the completion of the collation exercise across the state’s 21 local government areas.
According to TheCable, Nda-Eri declared APC candidates winners of all the contested positions, confirming the party’s clean sweep of the local government election.
He said the party secured all 21 chairmanship positions and 239 councillorship seats across the state’s electoral wards.
The election was conducted across 3,508 polling units, with political parties contesting for positions at the grassroots level. The commission had earlier announced preparations for the exercise, which covered all 21 local government areas and 239 electoral wards in the state.
Speaking after the announcement of the results, Nda-Eri declared the successful candidates returned elected to lead the various local government councils and represent their respective wards.
The KOSIEC chairman described the election as peaceful and credible, adding that the exercise was conducted in accordance with the commission’s electoral guidelines. He also commended security agencies, election observers, journalists, political parties and voters for their roles in ensuring an orderly process.
Nda-Eri further disclosed that the completion of the election marked the conclusion of the 13 activities outlined by the commission for the 2026 local government polls, a process that began nearly a year ago.
He added that Certificates of Return would be issued to the successful candidates in due course.
The outcome means the APC will retain control of all 21 local government councils in Kogi State, following its victory in every chairmanship and councillorship contest declared by the electoral commission.
The election also comes as the tenure of the outgoing chairmen and councillors, who were sworn in on October 23, 2024, draws to a close. Their two-year tenure is expected to end this month in line with the state’s electoral law.
The results represent a major victory for the ruling party in Kogi, where Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo leads the APC administration.
