Ogun Suspends Steel Company’s Operations After Fatal Workplace Accident

Ogun State Government has ordered Kan Steel Holdings Nigeria Limited in Sagamu to halt operations following an accident that killed an employee, Abdulfatai Nuru.

Gatekeepers News reports that the safety officials inspected the plant before the government issued a stop-work directive over suspected safety breaches.

Kafayat Lawal, permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Environment, said on Tuesday that initial findings suggested possible safety lapses. A full investigation is underway to determine how the accident occurred.

Lawal said the facility had been directed to “suspend operations with immediate effect pending the conclusion of the investigation and further directives”.

She expressed sympathy to Nuru’s family and colleagues, adding that regulatory sanctions would follow if investigators established violations.

The permanent secretary urged companies operating in Ogun to strengthen safety procedures and comply with applicable regulations to prevent further workplace tragedies.
