Gunmen on motorcycles reportedly attacked Binnari community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area on Friday, October 23, shortly after Jumu’ah prayers.
Gatekeepers News reports that residents told AFP that at least 20 people were killed, while some people remained missing. The Taraba State Police Command initially confirmed the recovery of 10 bodies.
Community leader Malam Abubakar Saifullahi said the attackers arrived on about 50 motorcycles, with two men on each motorcycle. They reportedly looted shops, taking cash, food items and other provisions, and seized motorcycles abandoned by fleeing residents.
Amnesty International Nigeria condemned the attack, saying the failure to hold perpetrators of such violence accountable was encouraging further attacks on rural communities.
The police said additional personnel and joint security teams had been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and apprehend those responsible. The identities of the attackers had not been established in the reports reviewed.
