President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, ahead of his planned pilgrimage to Makkah to perform Umrah, also known as the lesser Hajj.
Gatekeepers News reports that Tinubu arrived at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Thursday evening, where he was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yakubu Gambo, and the Saudi Head of Royal Protocol, Ahmad bin Thafir.
The President departed Abuja earlier on Thursday for the religious exercise, which the Presidency said would provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for Nigeria.
Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, had announced the trip in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu would perform the religious rites associated with Umrah while seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the pilgrimage.
