At least 14 people, including three children, have been shot in a drive-by shooting on Chicago’s West Side on Halloween night.
Gatekeepers News reports that Chicago Police while confirming this said there was no death.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said the conditions of the injured ranged from critical to non-life-threatening.
According to a statement from Chicago police, the injuries included gunshot wounds to the legs and torso, and the victims were ages 3 to 51.
The children who were shot are 3, 11, and 13 years old, and all three were in serious condition.
According to the statement, “Another woman was injured when she was struck by a vehicle while trying to get away. She is in “fair condition with various scrapes to the body.”
Police said people were standing at an intersection in Garfield Park, a neighborhood on the city’s West Side, around 9:30 p.m. Monday when two people in a dark SUV began shooting into the crowd. The shooters fled, according to the statement.
People had gathered at the intersection for a vigil with a balloon release, Brown said, adding the area is “a very common corner for people to congregate.”
Brown said Surveillance video showed the attack was a drive-by that “happened in just a few seconds.”
According to him, investigators were searching for a motive, and no suspects were in custody on Monday.
He said, “We don’t have any motive… We don’t have any offender identified. We don’t have any conflict on this corner where this happened.”
