Police Arrests Blogger Who Accused Fashola Of Writing Tribunal Judgment

Nigerian blogger, Chike Ibezim has been apprehended by the police following his publication accusing former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, of involvement with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) Judges to manipulate the verdict on 2023 presidential election challenges.

Gatekeepers News reports that ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the police force, confirmed the blogger’s arrest in a statement.

This development brings an end to weeks of speculations concerning the law enforcement agency responsible for apprehending the blogger from his residence in the early hours of the day.

Adejobi emphasised that contrary to speculations, Mr. Chike is lawfully detained based on a court order as his detention is linked to a prima facie case involving malicious publication, cyberbullying, and related offenses, all of which are still under investigation.

He noted that investigations have found Mr. Ibezim to be implicated and that Ibezim has provided valuable information, cooperating with the ongoing Police investigation.

Adejobi emphasised that the NPF takes allegations of malicious publication and cyberbullying seriously due to their potential to cause harm and damage to the reputation of individuals, institutions, and the nation’s security and stability.

Such actions can also have significant legal consequences. The Police’s role is to investigate such matters comprehensively and uphold the rule of law, he said.
