United States President, Joe Biden has cancelled Donald Trump-led inquiry on lab-based origins of COVID-19 virus.
Gatekeepers News reports that President Joe Biden cancelled a secretly-held State Department inquiry launched during the former President, Donald Trump’s administration to prove the COVID-19 originated in a Chinese lab.
The State Department project started in late 2020, months after Pompeo and Trump first claimed that the virus could have originated from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Pompeo had in May 2020, claimed there was “enormous evidence” and a “significant amount of evidence” to support the claim.
The decision to terminate the inquiry, which was run primarily out of the State Department’s arms control and verification bureau, was made after Biden officials were briefed on the team’s draft findings in February and March 2021, according to a State Department spokesperson.
Questions were raised concerning the legitimacy of the findings and the project was deemed to be an ineffective use of resources, a source familiar with the decision explained to CNN.
A State Department spokesperson also confirmed that work on the inquiry had stopped, saying, “even though this discrete project has concluded, the State Department continues to work with the interagency to look into the COVID origins issue.”
