Israeli opposition parties have struck a deal to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Gatekeepers News reports that Leader of centrist Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid officially informed Israeli President, Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday that he has reached agreements with political allies to form a new coalition government that would bring an end to PM Netanyahu’s 12 years in power.

Rivlin had tasked Lapid to form a government after Netanyahu again failed to put together his own coalition following Israel’s fourth election in less than two years.

“This government will work for all the citizens of Israel, those that voted for it and those that didn’t. It will do everything to unite Israeli society,” Lapid said on Twitter shortly before a Wednesday midnight deadline given to him.

Bennett, who was Netanyahu’s Defence Minister, claimed that his decision to join forces with Lapid is to prevent the country from sliding into a fifth consecutive election in just more than two years.

“It’s my intention to do my utmost in order to form a national unity government along with my friend Yair Lapid, so that, God willing, together we can save the country from a tailspin and return Israel to its course,” Bennett had said.
