Bandits have killed 88 persons in Kebbi attacks.
Gatekeepers News reports that eighty-eight persons have been killed by bandits in some communities in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Northwest Nigeria.
Kebbi Police Spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed this on Saturday, adding that there is a fear that the death toll may rise as many people remain unaccounted for.
Abubakar said the police have deployed more officers to the affected areas.
According to him, the attack occurred in the communities at the state’s boundaries with Zamfara and Niger states in the late hours of Thursday.
The Police Spokesman said the affected Communities which he identified as Rafin Gora, Koro, Gaya, Dimi, Zutu, Kimpi, and Iguenge are difficult to access from Kebbi State.
Abubakar said many fled during the attacks to nearby communities for safety and are yet to be accounted for.
According to him, following the recent attacks in the state by armed bandits from neighbouring states, Kebbi Police Command has launched ‘Operation Ganuwa’ to forestall attacks on vulnerable communities.
He added that the bandits have no known enclave in Kebbi State, “but usually came from Zamfara and Niger states and flee back to their bases after carrying out attacks.”
