2nd Niger Bridge To Be Completed Next Year – Fashola

Minister of works and housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has hinted that the Second Niger Bridge would be completed next year.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has reaffirmed that the ongoing work on the Second Niger Bridge would be completed next year.

The bridge will serve as a major link between the South East and South West Nigeria.

Fashola disclosed this during an interview with Journalists in Abuja, FCT, Nigeria.

He said the project will be delivered between the second and third quarters of 2022.

He added that the project would facilitate influx of investments into the South East when completed.

“So, what you see currently is the final work. The sub-structure which entailed building cement structures under water often costs a lot of money.

“We should finish the bridge next year between the second quarter and third quarter,’’ he said.

The Second Niger bridge is a Nigerian Federal Government project that is 1.6 km (0.99 mi) long and furnished with other ancillary infrastructure including a 10.3 km (6.4 mi) highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station, expected to be completed in the year 2022.

The bridge is being constructed across Nigeria’s Niger River and it will span from Asaba to Ozubulu and Ogbaru areas.

The project is currently being financed by the Nigeria Sovereign investment Authority (NSIA) through the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF).
