Novak Djokovic has defeated Matteo Berrettini to win 2021 Wimbledon and his 20th Grand Slam.
Gatekeepers News reports that Novak Djokovic has defeated Matteo Berrettini 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the male singles to win his sixth Wimbledon title on Sunday.
Djokovic who defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the recently concluded French Open final to seal his 19th Grand Slam has levelled up with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s world record of 20 grand slams.
The world number one who had just one grand slam title when Federer had 16 has shown ruthlessness in his quest for greatness and now levelled up with him.
The three of them have won 60 of the last 72 men’s Grand Slam singles titles.
Although no man has ever won the four slams and an Olympic gold in the same year, Djokovic has now completed the third leg towards achieving the Golden Slam.
The 34-year-old sealed his place in the record books on his third match point when Berrettini’s backhand slice landed in the net.
Berrettini at the end of the game confessed that “Novak’s a great champion. Well done once again. He’s writing the history of this sport.”
