Government Of Sudan Foils Coup Attempt
Sudanese government on Tuesday foiled an attempted coup by a group of soldiers according to authorities controlled by the country’s ruling council and military.
Gatekeepers News reports that Sudan is ruled by a joint civilian and military government since the military ousted the country’s longtime autocratic ruler Omar al-Bashir in April 2019.

“There has been a failed coup attempt, the people should confront it,” state media reported on Tuesday.

A government official said the plotters had attempted to take over the state media building but “they failed.”

Over three dozen troops, including high-ranking officers from the armoured corps, have been arrested in connection to the coup attempt according to a military official who also noted that they tried to take over several government institutions including state television before being overpowered.

State-run SUNA news agency quoted Brig. Al-Tahir Abu Haja, a media consultant for the military’s chief, as saying that the armed forces “thwarted the attempted coup and that all is completely under control.”
