Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Dickson Akon, commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, and Omolala Aminat Ahmed, the organisation’s finance director, before a high court in Abuja over alleged criminal conspiracy and misappropriation of funds.

Gatekeepers News reports that the defendants appeared on Thursday before Justice H. B. Yusuf, facing a two-count charge related to the alleged diversion of funds intended for a contract to supply badges to the paramilitary-style corps.

The first count alleges that Akon and Ahmed conspired in 2024 to commit criminal misappropriation. The charge reads, “That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed in the year 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did agree among yourselves to do an illegal act, to wit criminal misappropriation and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 96 of the penal code laws of the FCT.”

The second count claims that the duo dishonestly converted N46 million of the N60 million allocated for the badge supply contract for personal use.

It added, “That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed in the year 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court did agree among yourselves and dishonestly converted to your personal use the sum of N46,000,000.00 (Forty Six Million Naira only) out of the sum of N60,000,000.00 (Sixty Million Naira only) meant for the execution of contract for the supply of badges.”

The offences are said to violate Section 308 of the Penal Code. Both defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

Prosecution counsel Khalid Sanusi requested that the court remand them pending trial, but their lawyer, Emmanuel Agabi, applied for bail.

The judge granted bail, admitting Akon and Ahmed in the sum of N5 million each with two sureties in the same amount, and adjourned the case to February 25, 2026.
