Security Operatives Arrest Suspected Cultist Over Shooting Of MAPOLY Student

Security operatives have arrested a suspected cultist in connection with the shooting of a student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, in the Onikolobo area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the suspect, identified as Fredrick, was apprehended on April 1, 2026, following investigations by security agencies in collaboration with the Peace Initiative Committee in Ogun Central.

Fredrick was reportedly the owner of the motorcycle used during the attack and is currently in the custody of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) police unit.

The victim, an ND1 student, was said to be returning from school on a motorcycle when he was shot in the stomach by armed assailants, who left him in a pool of blood.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the attackers shot the student at close range after allegedly mistaking him for another target. The incident, which occurred on March 27, 2026, is believed to be linked to cult-related activities.

The injured student was rescued by a Good Samaritan and members of the student union, who initially rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was reportedly denied treatment. He was later taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, where he received emergency care.

Speaking on the incident, the victim’s mother, Kemisola Aderogba, said her son is now recuperating after undergoing surgery and called for justice.

“I want justice for my son. Those responsible must be found and made to face the law,” she said.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The attack has, however, reignited concerns over cult-related violence in Ogun State, with renewed calls for stronger security measures, particularly in areas with high student populations.
