NNPP Appoints Bala Mohammed As Chairman

New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced Bala Mohammed as its new national chairman following recent changes in its leadership structure.

Gatekeepers News reports that the development comes after the exit of Ajuji Ahmed, who had been serving in an acting capacity since March 2024 before reportedly leaving the party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to the party’s national publicity secretary, Ladipo Johnson, Mohammed’s emergence is part of efforts to stabilise the party and reposition it ahead of future elections. He was described as an experienced political organiser with strong grassroots connections and a deep understanding of party administration.

The NNPP also used the announcement to express serious concern about Nigeria’s political climate as the 2027 general elections approach. The party pointed to worsening economic conditions, including rising inflation and hardship, alongside growing insecurity across the country.

It further alleged that the nation’s democratic system is facing increasing pressure through internal disruptions within political parties, legal disputes, and actions it believes are weakening democratic institutions.

Party leaders said Mohammed’s appointment is strategic at a time when NNPP is seeking to strengthen its internal structures, resolve lingering disputes, and build a more united front.

With the new leadership in place, the party says it aims to position itself as a credible alternative capable of addressing the country’s governance challenges and meeting public expectations in the next electoral cycle.
