Former Anambra State Govenor, Peter Obi, and ex-Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have officially joined Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Gatekeepers News reports that the politicians received their membership cards in a move that signals a major shift in Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
The two political figures were admitted into the party after a closed-door meeting with its leadership in Abuja. They were welcomed by former Bayelsa State governor and NDC national leader, Seriake Dickson, who formally received them into the party.
Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, and Kwankwaso, his counterpart from the New Nigeria People’s Party, were presented with membership cards amid cheers from supporters shortly after the meeting.
The development follows their defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and comes amid ongoing political realignments as opposition figures reposition ahead of the next general elections.
Reports indicate that the meeting with NDC leaders formed part of broader consultations aimed at building a stronger political coalition, with both leaders aligning on key issues such as governance, national unity, and development priorities.
