APC Candidate Envulu-Anza Wins Nasarawa North Senate By-Election

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Danladi Envulu-Anza of All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election.

Gatekeepers News reports that Envulu-Anza defeated prominent contenders Labaran Maku of the Labour Party and David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).  

The by-election was conducted on Saturday to fill the vacancy created by the death of former senator, Godiya Akwashiki. The election covered Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba local government areas that make up the senatorial district.  

Announcing the results on Sunday at the collation centre in Akwanga, the Returning Officer, Professor Aminu Ali, said Envulu-Anza secured 45,362 votes to emerge victorious ahead of five other candidates. Labour Party candidate and former Information Minister, Labaran Maku, polled 12,931 votes to place second, while PDP candidate David Ombugadu garnered 11,570 votes.  

Other candidates in the race included Alaku Ahmed of the ADC, who scored 4,244 votes, Duba Dodo of the NDC with 1,496 votes, and John Paul Araneshri of the NNPP, who secured 102 votes.  

Declaring the outcome, the returning officer stated that Envulu-Anza had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore returned elected as the senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
