Court Grants Peller N500000 Bail Over Alleged Police Obstruction

Popular TikTok personality, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has been granted bail of N500,000 by a Lagos Magistrate’s Court after he was arraigned on allegations of obstructing police officers and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

Gatekeepers News reports that Peller was arraigned alongside Bello Oladipo over an incident that occurred on July 2 along the Coastal Road in Lekki, Lagos. The duo is facing three counts bordering on conspiracy to commit a felony, obstructing police officers while carrying out their lawful duties, and actions capable of disturbing public peace. They both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The case followed a viral video showing Peller in a confrontation with police officers. In the footage, the content creator claimed he was stopped for driving a newly purchased vehicle without a number plate and alleged that one of the officers pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at him. However, police accused him and his co-defendant of obstructing officers, threatening them and recording them while they were performing their official duties.

The court admitted both defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties. It also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative, while both sureties must provide tax clearance certificates for the previous two years. The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
