JUST IN: DSS Arrests Maina’s Son Years After Jumping Bail

Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested Faisal Maina, son of former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, six years after he allegedly jumped bail while facing trial for money laundering.

Gatekeepers News reports that Faisal was prosecuted alongside his father by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations bordering on money laundering and the handling of proceeds of unlawful activities.

In November 2020, a Federal High Court in Abuja revoked Faisal’s bail and issued a warrant for his arrest after he repeatedly failed to appear for trial. The court also summoned his surety, Sani Umar Dangaladima, a member of the House of Representatives, to explain why the N60 million bail bond should not be forfeited.

EFCC had accused Faisal of operating an account with United Bank for Africa (UBA) allegedly used to launder about N58 million. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In December 2020, security operatives reportedly rearrested Faisal after the court ordered his arrest. The EFCC subsequently confirmed the development to the court.

His father, Abdulrasheed Maina, was convicted in November 2021 on money laundering charges relating to pension funds and sentenced to imprisonment. The EFCC declared him wanted again in September 2026 in connection with an alleged stolen-property case.
