Suspected Jukun militia launched a coordinated attack on returning Internally Displaced Persons in Tse Ajogo village, Wukari LGA of Taraba State, resulting in the death of at least 17 people.

Gatekeepers News reports that reports by counterterrorism outlet Zagazola Makama said eight more victims sustained injuries during the assault carried out on Wednesday, December 10.

According to the publication, the attackers stormed the village in the early hours, shooting at residents and IDPs. Several individuals are still missing, and multiple houses were burnt during the incident.

Sources cited by Makama revealed that this marks the second attack on returning IDPs in the same community within two months.

Tse Ajogo, situated about four kilometres from Rafin Kada town, has long been viewed as a community exposed to repeated militia raids.

The report added that the gunmen were heavily armed and appeared to have planned the operation to disrupt ongoing resettlement efforts.

Security agencies have asked residents to increase vigilance and have directed troops to maintain active patrols around vulnerable settlements.

Authorities say efforts are underway to track those responsible, while Tiv communities in the state have been urged to report any suspicious activity as prayers continue for calm to be restored.
