The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a three-day ultimatum to waste contractors to clear refuse in satellite towns, warning that any failure to comply will result in the termination of their contracts.
Gatekeepers News reports that Wike gave the directive on Friday during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Karu, Bwari, Kubwa and along the Apo–Karshi corridor in Abuja.
He also instructed the FCT Satellite Towns Development Department coordinator, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, to enforce strict compliance with the order.
During the inspection, the minister expressed concern over large heaps of refuse along the Orozo–Apo–Karshi road corridor and warned that contractors who fail to act swiftly would lose their jobs.
“Tell the contractor that by Monday or Tuesday, if I still see this refuse, his job will be terminated,” Wike said.
Describing the situation as unacceptable, he added:
“This is unacceptable. It is embarrassing. These areas are no longer villages; development has taken over, and nobody will accept this.”
Wike assured residents that all refuse, particularly in satellite towns, would be evacuated promptly to ensure a cleaner environment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on November 15, 2025, the minister had earlier warned waste contractors against incompetence, political patronage and excuses, noting that waste management challenges persist due to the “insincerity and lack of capacity” of some service providers.
“Do your work, get your pay. If you don’t do your work, don’t expect payment. It will be terminated,” he stressed.
