The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed circulating messages warning of a possible cult-related clash in parts of Surulere, assuring residents that there is no cause for alarm.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement, the command said it had taken proactive and decisive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order following reports alleging potential unrest in areas such as Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and Ishaga.
According to the police, personnel and operational assets were swiftly deployed to the identified locations and surrounding communities immediately after the alert surfaced.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has directed intensified patrols, strategic positioning of officers, and increased visibility across the flashpoints to ensure the safety of lives and property.
The command noted that the affected areas are well secured, with adequate measures in place to deter unlawful gatherings or activities.
Residents were urged to continue their daily activities without fear, as security operatives remain on ground to maintain peace and order.
“While the command acknowledges the concerns raised, members of the public are advised to disregard unverified rumours capable of creating panic and instead rely on credible information from official sources,” the statement read.
The police also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest station or through its emergency lines.
Reaffirming its commitment, the command stated that it would continue to take all necessary measures to ensure peace and security across Lagos.
