Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has publicly declared Senator Aliyu Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West in the National Assembly, as his preferred successor in the 2027 governorship election.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Governor made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia, where he explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders across the state over the past year.

Sule said the choice was narrowed down after considering several aspirants deemed capable of winning the election, stressing that the final selection was based on consensus-building and political viability.

According to him, the process involved multiple rounds of consultations before settling on Senator Wadada, whom he described as well-positioned to continue his administration’s policies and political direction.

Senator Wadada, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, is a key political figure in the state and recently moved from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), a move seen as strengthening his governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The endorsement is likely to significantly shape the APC power dynamics in Nasarawa State as preparations intensify for party primaries, with other aspirants expected to contest the Governor’s preference.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already scheduled party primaries for April to May 2027, setting the stage for early political realignments across the country.
