A former chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Bashir Bolarinwa, has officially declared his intention to contest the state’s governorship election in 2027.

Gatekeepers News reports that Bolarinwa made his ambition public on Thursday at the APC secretariat in Ilorin, where he presented a formal letter of intent before party elders, stakeholders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.

He said his decision to join the race is driven by a commitment to public service and a desire to build on what he described as the gains of progressive governance in the state. Bolarinwa highlighted his political experience, noting that he has served at different levels, including as a councillor, a two-term chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, and a member of the House of Representatives.

The former APC chairman also pointed to his leadership role during the 2019 elections in Kwara, referencing the impact of the “O to ge” political movement, which significantly reshaped the state’s political structure. He added that his tenure as chairman of the governing board of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) further strengthened his administrative and governance experience.

Bolarinwa expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in Kwara in 2027, stressing the need for unity, discipline, and inclusive development within the party and the state.

His declaration comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections. Notably, Kwara North APC caucus had earlier endorsed him as its preferred candidate, describing him as a leader with integrity, competence, and the capacity to unify the party.
