Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau has resigned from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and rejoined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gatekeepers News reports that Shekarau announced his defection on Sunday at his residence in Kano after holding consultations with his political associates.
In a resignation letter dated April 19, 2026, the former Governor said his exit from the PDP takes immediate effect, thanking party leaders at his ward level for their support.
Shekarau explained that the decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of his political future, urging his supporters to follow him into the APC.
His move comes amid internal challenges within PDP and after recent engagements with APC leaders, including the party’s national chairman, who had earlier invited him to rejoin the ruling party.
This marks another shift in Shekarau’s long political journey, having moved between major parties over the years due to power struggles and alignments in Kano politics.
He previously served as Governor from 2003 to 2011 and has switched between the ANPP, PDP, APC, and NNPP at different times.
