The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has announced the arrest of three persons with disabilities (PWDs) in separate anti-drug operations carried out in Anambra and Kwara states.
Gatekeepers News reports that the agency also disclosed that its operatives seized more than two tonnes of loud, a potent strain of cannabis, during a raid on a mansion in the Lekki area of Lagos allegedly being used as a storage facility for illicit drugs.
According to the NDLEA, one of the suspects, a 60-year-old man, was arrested at Akpaka forest in Onitsha, Anambra State, after operatives allegedly recovered 250 grammes of skunk packaged in retail sachets from him.
In another operation in Ogbunike, also in Anambra, officers apprehended 25-year-old Amos Kenneth with substances said to include Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol 5, and skunk.
The agency further stated that another suspect, identified as Usman Salisu, was arrested in Kwara State after operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle and allegedly discovered 6.3 kilogrammes of skunk concealed inside a school bag linked to him.
NDLEA said its officers later conducted a special operation at a mansion in Lekki on May 8, where they recovered 4,000 parcels of loud weighing 2,326 kilogrammes.
Chairman of the agency, Buba Marwa, said the operations were part of efforts aimed at reducing the spread and circulation of illicit substances across the country.
He added that the agency has continued to intensify its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through awareness and sensitisation programmes in schools, religious centres, workplaces, and local communities.
Marwa also commended NDLEA operatives involved in the operations carried out across Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos states, urging them to sustain the momentum in both enforcement and public enlightenment efforts.
