JUST IN: EFCC Arrests Energy Commission DG

Operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly arrested Mustapha Abdullahi, director-general of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), over alleged financial crimes involving about N500 billion.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to multiple reports circulating on Wednesday, Abdullahi was taken into custody in Abuja as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering, contract inflation and diversion of public funds linked to the commission.

Sources familiar with the matter stated that the anti-graft agency has begun interrogating top officials connected to the alleged fraud case, while investigators are also reviewing financial records and contracts awarded under the commission.

Although EFCC is yet to release an official statement on the reported arrest as of press time, reports said the investigation focuses on alleged irregularities in energy-related projects and expenditure running into hundreds of billions of naira.
