Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Ogun East ahead of the 2027 general election.
Gatekeepers News reports that the development follows former Governor and incumbent senator, Gbenga Daniel, stepped down from the race hours before the primary election.
The APC senatorial primaries held across the three districts of Ogun State were reported to be peaceful, with party members turning out in large numbers to participate in the exercise. In several wards monitored in Ogun East, Abiodun recorded overwhelming victories while Daniel scored no votes.
In Ward 9, Ode Remo, the Governor polled 1,116 votes, while Daniel secured zero votes. Abiodun also won Ward 10 with 714 votes as his rival again failed to record any vote.
Before withdrawing, Daniel had reportedly raised concerns over alleged plans to intimidate his supporters and disrupt the process. However, Abiodun dismissed the allegation, insisting that the APC primary was transparent and orderly.
The contest had intensified in recent weeks following political disagreements between both camps over the Ogun East senatorial seat. Earlier,
APC leaders in the district had endorsed Abiodun as the preferred consensus candidate, a move Daniel initially resisted by obtaining the party’s nomination form to seek re-election.
Abiodun, who will complete his second term as Governor in 2027, had promised to give Ogun East what he described as the best representation ever in the Senate if elected.
