A motorist lost his life in the early hours of Saturday after a Honda Pilot SUV was involved in a lone crash along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the accident occurred at Charity Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo and left the vehicle severely damaged.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the SUV reportedly lost control before overturning several times and coming to a stop. The impact of the crash trapped the driver inside the wreckage, and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said officers monitoring traffic around the Iyana Isolo corridor responded swiftly after receiving reports of the incident. Preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle suddenly went out of control, leading to the fatal accident.
Emergency responders subsequently recovered the victim’s body and cleared the wreckage to restore the free flow of traffic along the busy expressway. Authorities used the incident to remind motorists to avoid speeding, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
The latest crash adds to concerns over road safety on major highways in Lagos, where traffic authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to exercise caution, particularly during periods of increased travel.
