Former President Goodluck Jonathan has cautioned Nigerians against a fake Instagram account being operated in his name, warning that he does not own or manage any Instagram handle.
Gatekeepers News reports that Jonathan’s media office described the account as fraudulent and urged the public to disregard any posts or messages coming from it.
His Special Adviser on Media, Ikechukwu Eze, explained that the impersonator account has been copying content from Jonathan’s verified Facebook page while presenting it as original Instagram posts from the former president.
The statement stressed that Jonathan is not active on Instagram and does not operate any official account on the platform. The public and media organisations were advised not to share, engage, or circulate content from the fake profile in order to prevent misinformation.
It further noted that the fraudulent account had already attracted a large number of followers, raising concerns about the spread of misinformation and identity impersonation on social media.
Authorities and his media team reaffirmed that only statements released through his verified channels should be considered authentic.
