Six members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), marking the latest development in the political realignment taking place in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the lawmakers are Najimdeen Oyedeji (Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa), Adedeji Olajide (Ibadan North-West/South-West), Abass Adigun (Ibadan North-East/South-East), Anthony Adepoju (Ibarapa Central/North), Ojo Makanjuola (Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere), and another federal lawmaker who subsequently joined the movement to the APM.
Their defections followed earlier resignations from the PDP, where they cited persistent internal crises, legal disputes and divisions within the party.
The development comes amid growing political cooperation between the PDP faction loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the APM.
Recent reports indicate that Makinde has been involved in efforts to build a broader opposition alliance ahead of the next general election, with several political stakeholders in the state aligning with the new coalition.
The lawmakers said their decisions were reached after consultations with supporters and political associates, arguing that they needed a platform that would provide stability, inclusiveness and room for their political aspirations.
