Nigerian troops operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed a suspected terrorist and recovered motorcycles, ammunition and other items during a clearance operation in Niger State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the operation was carried out by personnel of Counter Insurgency Battalion XVI in collaboration with troops from the Forward Operating Base in Babanna, Borgu Local Government Area.

According to an operational report, the troops came under attack while conducting a fighting patrol to Gulbi community. They successfully repelled the ambush, killing one terrorist during the gun battle.

Security forces recovered 15 motorcycles and 253 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition from the scene. The troops also discovered several improvised explosive devices planted along their withdrawal routes and safely neutralised them, preventing potential casualties.

Military authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist groups and deny them freedom of movement across Niger State and other areas covered by Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

The latest success comes as the military continues a series of offensives against terrorist and bandit groups in the North-West and North-Central regions, with security agencies intensifying efforts to restore peace in affected communities.
