Nigerian rapper and activist Falz joined protesters in Lagos on Democracy Day to demand stronger action against the worsening insecurity across the country, expressing concern over the increasing cases of killings and kidnappings affecting Nigerians.

Gatekeepers News reports that the protest, held at the Ikeja Underbridge, brought together civil society groups, activists and concerned citizens who called on the government to address insecurity and improve the welfare of Nigerians. Demonstrators carried placards and demanded an end to terrorism, banditry, kidnappings and violent attacks across the country.

Speaking during the protest, Falz said insecurity had become a major concern nationwide and urged authorities to take decisive action to protect lives and property.

“They’re killing too many of us. They’re kidnapping too many of us. It is happening in Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Borno, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, so many states,” he said.

“We are here to put an end to insecurity.”

The singer also expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of national issues, saying Nigerians had given leaders enough time to demonstrate their commitment to addressing the country’s challenges.

“They had ample time to show any willingness, any political will to make a difference. I can’t predict who is winning or not winning. I think from the general mood we see how people feel. We can see the discontent and dissatisfaction with the way they have managed their affairs,” he said.

Falz further stressed his belief in democratic participation, saying, “I personally believe in the democratic system. I believe in a democratic process and I’m ready on that day to exercise my franchise.”

The demonstration formed part of broader protests organised by civil society groups to draw attention to rising insecurity and economic hardship. Organisers lamented that many communities continue to suffer from kidnappings, killings and other forms of violence, urging the government to take urgent measures to restore public confidence in the country’s security architecture.

Participants at the rally maintained that protecting lives and property should remain the government’s top priority, while calling for stronger efforts to curb criminal activities and improve safety across Nigeria.
