Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and secured the party’s ticket for Ogun Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the former lawmaker was officially received by party leaders and supporters at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where she was presented with the party flag and formally unveiled as its senatorial candidate.
Speaking at the event, Obasanjo pledged loyalty to the PDP and promised to uphold the party’s constitution, manifesto and code of conduct. She said she would serve with integrity, humility and dedication while prioritising the welfare of the people above personal and sectional interests.
The Ogun PDP chairman, Abayomi Tella, presented the party flag to Obasanjo, describing it as the official authority for her candidature. He expressed confidence that her experience and political influence would strengthen the party’s chances in future elections.
Obasanjo previously represented Ogun Central in the Senate between 2007 and 2011 on the PDP platform. She joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this year and sought the party’s governorship ticket. However, she later resigned from the APC, citing unfair treatment, disrespect and the failure of party leaders to honour agreements reached with her.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Ladi Adebutu praised Obasanjo’s resilience and commitment to public service, describing her as a true daughter of Ogun State.
