FHA Demolishes Buildings Erected on Land Allocsted To Ambassadors

Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has demolished nine uncompleted terrace duplexes at AB Close in Gwarinpa, Abuja, over allegations that they were illegally constructed on land originally allocated to serving ambassadors about two decades ago.

Gatekeepers News reports that the authority said the demolition was part of efforts to enforce planning regulations and protect government-owned property.

Speaking during the exercise, Peter Okpanachi, the FHA’s General Manager of Partnerships and Zonal Coordination, said affected developers failed to produce genuine allocation letters, approved building plans and evidence of statutory payments.

He stressed that no one would be allowed to violate the authority’s regulations and urged prospective property buyers to verify land documents and obtain all necessary approvals before embarking on any development.

The latest demolition follows a similar enforcement action ordered earlier this year by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against buildings illegally erected on plots designated for foreign missions in the diplomatic zone of Katampe Extension. Authorities had said the land was originally allocated to 10 embassies for diplomatic residences, while part of the area was reserved for electricity infrastructure.

FHA maintained that the demolition is part of its broader campaign to curb illegal developments in the Federal Capital Territory and warned developers to comply with all legal requirements before commencing construction to avoid similar sanctions.
