Gunmen have abducted three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) in Nasarawa State, with police rescuing one of the victims during a swift search-and-rescue operations.

Gatekeepers News reports that the students were kidnapped on Tuesday night after armed men invaded Living Seed Lodge, an off-campus hostel located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the students’ residential community in Lafia.

The Nasarawa State Police Command said it received a distress call at about 9:20 p.m. from the university’s Chief Security Officer, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, to deploy tactical teams, patrol officers and other security personnel to the scene. During the operation, one of the abducted students was rescued, while efforts have been intensified to secure the release of the remaining two victims.

Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel said the command has launched a coordinated manhunt for the kidnappers, with operatives combing nearby forests and escape routes believed to have been used by the attackers. He added that security personnel are working with local vigilantes and other stakeholders to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining students.

The police urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while appealing to anyone with useful information that could aid the operation to report to the nearest police station. The latest incident has renewed concerns over the security of students living in off-campus hostels in the state.
