World number one Jannik Sinner retained his Wimbledon men’s singles title after fighting back from a set down to defeat Alexander Zverev 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 in a gripping final at Centre Court on Sunday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Zverev, the reigning French Open champion, edged a closely contested opening set in a tiebreak and looked on course for a major upset. However, Sinner responded with composure, taking the second-set tiebreak before raising his level in the final two sets to secure victory after nearly four hours of high-quality tennis.
The triumph gave the Italian his second consecutive Wimbledon title and fifth Grand Slam crown overall, further strengthening his position as the world’s top-ranked player. Sinner also extended his dominant run against Zverev, maintaining an unbeaten record in their recent meetings.
Despite the defeat, Zverev earned praise for his spirited performance in his first Wimbledon final. After the match, he jokingly told Sinner during the trophy presentation that he did not “really like” him anymore, drawing laughter from the Centre Court crowd before congratulating the Italian on another outstanding display.
