Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, giving the Federal Government until August 31, 2026, to fulfil its outstanding demands.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision was reached at the association’s Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting after discussions with the Federal Government over issues affecting resident doctors.
NARD had earlier announced plans to commence an indefinite strike on August 10 over unresolved concerns, including salary and allowance arrears, promotion-related issues and the implementation of previous agreements with the government.
Following renewed discussions with the government, the doctors agreed to suspend the planned industrial action to allow the authorities to address their demands.
The association, however, said it would review the situation after the August 31 deadline and take further action if the government fails to implement the agreements reached.
The development has averted a nationwide disruption of medical services in public hospitals as the government works to resolve the outstanding issues with the doctors.
