Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Gatekeepers News reports that Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee Chairman, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the figure represents 81.50 percent of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state.
According to the commission, 432,843 PVCs, representing 18.50 percent of registered voters, remain uncollected and have been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
INEC also said some registered voters whose PVCs were damaged, defaced or lost had applied for replacement cards.
The commission is expected to conduct the Osun governorship election on Saturday, August 15, with voters across the state choosing the next Governor.
The election comes amid intense political activity, with the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke, seeking another term in office. Two other governorship candidates, Adebayo Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Adedamola Adebayo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have withdrawn from the contest and endorsed Adeleke.
