Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, an ally of Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun State, has been shot dead in the Ile-Ife area of the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that Oyeyemi was reportedly killed on Sunday during a clash involving rival factions over the control and leadership of motor parks in Ile-Ife.
Osun State Police Command confirmed that a shooting occurred around the Energy filling station in Ile-Ife, prompting its operatives to move to the area to restore normalcy and begin an investigation.
Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the command, said preliminary findings showed that Oyeyemi was shot, adding that the police were working to determine the immediate and remote causes of the incident and identify those responsible.
Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Adeleke, also confirmed Oyeyemi’s death and said the governor had directed the police commissioner to arrest everyone involved in the killing.
According to Rasheed, the incident was allegedly linked to a tussle over the leadership of a motor park. Adeleke subsequently directed rival groups to vacate the parks and ordered security agencies to restore peace across the affected areas.
The governor also directed the establishment of a Park Management System to regulate motor parks and garages across the state.
Adeleke said, “Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book.”
The latest incident comes amid previous tensions over motor park administration in Osun. In July, Adeleke ordered the suspension of activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) following violence in some motor parks across the state.
Oyeyemi had also faced legal proceedings. TheCable reported that he was remanded at the Ile-Ife correctional centre in Osogbo in November 2024 over allegations of murder following an 11-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force. In January 2026, he denied involvement in the killing of Oyebamiji Kazeem, an NURTW official.
The police said investigations into the latest shooting were ongoing, while Adeleke called for calm and directed security agencies to prevent further violence.
