Dubai has declared 10 days of mourning following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, younger brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President.
Gatekeepers News reports that Dubai Media Office announced his death on Monday, September 21, 2026, prompting the Ruler’s Court to declare an official mourning period across the emirate.
The 10-day mourning period began on Monday, with flags to be flown at half-mast until September 30.
Sheikh Ahmed, who was 76, served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security. He was also involved in business and sports activities in the emirate.
Following the announcement, Sheikh Mohammed expressed his grief over the death of his younger brother and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon him.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also offered condolences to Sheikh Mohammed and members of the Al Maktoum family.
The cause of Sheikh Ahmed’s death was not disclosed in the official announcement.
