Nigeria Immigration Service has enrolled 8,552 Nigerians in passport intervention exercises conducted in the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom.
Gatekeepers News reports that NIS disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, saying the exercises were organised to bring passport services closer to Nigerians living abroad.
The interventions were carried out under the directive of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the affected countries.
According to the Service, 535 Nigerians were enrolled during the exercise covering Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee in the United States between September 7 and 15, 2026.
In Canada, 2,257 Nigerians were enrolled between September 6 and 19 across Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick.
The Qatar exercise recorded 751 enrolments between August 9 and 24, while the ongoing exercise in the United Kingdom, covering London and Manchester, has so far enrolled 5,099 Nigerians.
NIS said passport production and dispatch were being carried out concurrently during the UK exercise. It advised applicants who were unable to secure appointment slots, as well as those who preferred not to visit the passport centres or Nigerian High Commission physically, to use the Contactless Passport Application System.
The Service said the intervention exercises were part of efforts to improve access to passport services and provide timely and convenient services to Nigerians in the diaspora.
