JAMB Reacts To UNILAG ‘Hijab’ Discrimination At CBT Centre

JAMB Reveals Date For 2022 UTME Registration
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reacted to the alleged ‘hijab’ discrimination at the University of Lagos Computer Based Test (CBT) centre.

Gatekeepers News reports that on Wednesday morning security official at UNILAG stopped a candidate from entering the CBT centre for allegedly wearing a scarf and not hijab.

UNILAG officials had explained that the candidate in question would have been granted easy access to the exam centre if she had put on a hijab and not a scarf.

In its reaction, JAMB in a statement signed by its Director, Legal Services, Abdul Wahab Oyedokun said no centre is allowed to discriminate against any Nigerian/ candidate or infringe on the rights of any person before, during and after the UTME.

The statement reads: “For the avoidance of doubt, no centre will prevent any candidate from the use of Hijab for UTME.

“JAMB officials are posted to all centres to ensure that all our guidelines are strictly complied with.”

The examination board further appealed to the public to report any violation of its code, stressing that “such report must be verifiable and factually accurate.”
