U.S Declares Monkeypox Outbreak A Public Health Emergency

United States President Joe Biden has condemned the assassination attempt on Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.

Gatekeepers News reports that al-Kadhimi on Sunday survived an assassination attempt after a drone laden with explosives targeted his residence in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies. At least, six members of his personal protection force were wounded in the attack.

Iraq’s military is investigating the attack as an assassination attempt and the American President has also said the US will offer assistance to the Iraqi security forces investigating the incident.

Biden, in a statement, said, “The perpetrators of this terrorist attack on the Iraqi state must be held accountable.” He also said that he condemns “in the strongest terms those using violence to undermine Iraq’s democratic process.”

A US State Department spokesperson said Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to al-Kadhimi on the telephone on Sunday.

He said Blinken stressed that the attack was also an attack on the sovereignty and stability of the Iraqi state.

The spokesperson said, “The secretary reiterated that the US partnership with Prime Minister al-Kadhimi and with Iraq is steadfast.”
