In a significant development for higher education in Nigeria, Mudiame University has been awarded a permanent license from the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), transitioning the institution from provincial status to a fully-fledged university.
Gatekeepers News reports that this milestone was announced by the university’s founder, Prof. Sunny Eromosele, during a press briefing in Abuja, marking a pivotal moment in the university’s mission to address critical challenges and contribute to the national economy.
Reflecting on the achievement, Prof. Eromosele expressed his commitment to creating a learning environment akin to Harvard University, tailored to foster innovative solutions for Nigeria’s unique challenges.
“We are now fully licensed to run academic programs at Mudiame University,” he stated.
“This permanent license enables us to proceed with the accreditation of all our programs, paving the way for us to expand our offerings and fulfill our mission of providing specialized education aligned with Nigeria’s industrial needs.”
Having extensive experience in the oil and gas sector, Eromosele envisions Mudiame University as a premier hub for technical and industrial education, aimed at addressing long-standing skill shortages that have hampered the nation’s development.
“Our goal is to establish Mudiame University as Nigeria’s Harvard for industrialization and entrepreneurship,” he declared.
“We’re dedicated to creating innovative programs that will not only transform Nigeria’s industrial landscape but also generate employment opportunities for our youth.”
The university’s focus on practical, industry-relevant education is underscored by its curriculum, which has been thoughtfully designed to support Nigeria’s trajectory towards industrialization.
Eromosele emphasised the university’s commitment to developing specialised programs that will equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in a competitive job market.
In light of the ongoing issue of “brain drain,” where talented individuals seek opportunities abroad, Mudiame University is taking proactive measures to reverse this trend. The university has initiated partnerships with embassies and established collaborations with universities across France, Europe, and Canada.
“Through these collaborations, we aim to cultivate a ‘brain recirculation’ system, allowing students to pursue education abroad while encouraging them to return and apply their skills in Nigeria,” Eromosele explained.
In acknowledgment of this significant achievement, Oredo Iyawe Esosa, a member of the House of Representatives, commended Prof. Eromosele’s efforts to reform education in Nigeria.
“This is a monumental accomplishment,” Esosa remarked.
“Prof. Eromosele has demonstrated remarkable dedication to advancing higher education not only in Edo State but across Nigeria. This permanent license signifies his commitment to expanding access to education and driving progressive change in the educational sector.”
Esosa further highlighted the urgent need for local educational institutions to receive robust support, calling on leaders within Edo State to rally behind Mudiame University’s mission.
“Educational reform is vital for Nigeria’s future, and today’s achievement represents a significant step toward realizing that objective,” he added.
As Mudiame University embarks on this new chapter, it stands poised to make a lasting impact on Nigeria’s education landscape, providing students with opportunities that bridge academia and industry while addressing the pressing challenges of unemployment and skill shortages in the country.
