A prominent ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State following the party’s primary election.
Gatekeepers News reports that reports indicate that Chinda, who represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was selected as the consensus flag bearer after other aspirants reportedly stepped down ahead of the exercise.
His emergence is being linked to the influence of Wike’s political bloc within the APC structure in Rivers State.
Chinda had earlier been screened and cleared by the APC ahead of the primaries, alongside other loyalists of the FCT Minister, in what has been described as a consolidation of Wike’s growing influence in the state’s opposition party structure.
The development is part of wider political realignments in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, where alliances between key political figures continue to shape candidate selection and party dominance.
