Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, citing the administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure initiatives and efforts to stabilise the country.

Gatekeepers News reports that the council said its endorsement followed a review of the President’s performance since he assumed office in May 2023, noting that although some of the policies introduced by the administration had imposed short-term hardships, there were indications that they were beginning to produce positive results.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Secretary-General of the YCE, Chief Dipo Oyewole, said the council had carefully assessed developments across the country and concluded that continuity in leadership would serve Nigeria’s best interests.

According to Oyewole, President Tinubu inherited significant economic and security challenges but has shown determination and courage in tackling them through wide-ranging reforms.

He said measures such as the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms and efforts to attract investment required bold leadership and would need time to achieve their full impact.

The YCE scribe argued that the administration should be allowed to consolidate on its programmes, adding that there were already signs of gradual economic stabilisation despite the initial difficulties experienced by citizens.

He also commended the Federal Government’s interventions in critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, agriculture and social investment programmes, describing them as essential foundations for long-term national development.

Oyewole urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 to ensure continuity in policies and programmes aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth.

He stressed that the council’s endorsement was not influenced by ethnic considerations but was based on what it described as an objective assessment of the administration’s performance and future prospects.

According to him, the YCE remains committed to promoting national unity, good governance and the welfare of all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious or political affiliations.

The council expressed confidence that with sustained support and policy consistency, Nigeria would overcome its current challenges and achieve greater economic growth and political stability.
