Federal Government has begun implementing a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of Rwanda as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and improve movement across Africa.
Gatekeepers News reports that the development was confirmed by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the NIS, the directive followed President Bola Tinubu’s announcement during the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda. The policy is also a reciprocal gesture after Rwanda granted similar visa-free access to Nigerian citizens.
The immigration service explained that Rwandan nationals can now enter Nigeria without a visa for up to 30 days for lawful activities, including tourism, business, and official engagements.
However, the agency clarified that any Rwandan citizen intending to remain in Nigeria beyond the approved period must apply for the appropriate visa through Nigerian embassies, high commissions, or the country’s e-visa platform.
The NIS added that all international airports, land borders, and seaports across the country have been directed to begin immediate enforcement of the new policy.
The initiative is expected to deepen bilateral ties between both countries while promoting tourism, trade, and intra-African mobility in line with broader continental integration goals.
